Yea It was great and a fine setlist too.
Without spending your money, I say " Go." What have you to lose but some money and time.
If I had a chance for these last two, I would. It is live and powerful to me. I have heard so many shows from the past, the idea of a show they haven't done before is exciting. What's next and all.
I think they are a great band.

"I have heard so many shows from the past, the idea of a show they haven't done before is exciting"

That is a puzzling sentence on a few levels.

I have no problem if you change "from" to "in.: :)

As in you've listened to so many shows on the Archive that the idea of new live music is exciting. Or something.

I'm curious. Does the act of watching a concert vid change the musical experience from an aud? I'm sad that nugs.net brought down the hammer. It's just business you know. I was looking forward to irvine.

If there is a video I will watch it over just the audio. Now my brother says the opposite, he prefers just audio to watching it. With some of these pro shot shows you get up close and I like seeing them play and the interaction and fun they are having.
Luckily there is a lot of GD on video between Voodonola and GD on Music Vault .

Hmm, interesting question. In general, I like having a high quality video of a rock performance, but sometimes its not a good idea.

I listened to New Year's 1987 audio many many times and was way into it as an energetic and rocking show. When I got the video and DVD, still to this day I watch it and the rocking music does not fit with how they are barely moving or emoting on stage. It kinda bums me out to watch the video, it looks more boring than if I just listen to the audio only. Watching video of some of the daytime shows from 1989 and early 90s can be a bummer for me because you can see the dandruff on Jerry's shirt and he just looks bad and slobbish and unhealthy (as do Phil and Brent at times). But getting to watch 1972 GD in Europe when they were energetic and thin and (relatively) healthy enhances the audio for me. Copenhagen DVD!

Well I fail to see any correlation between past GD shows and what Dead and Co are doing in any way other than GD music being played. Also by saying they it infers that it is the same group of musicians.

It just seems like you are treating this band's music as a continuation of the GD's catalog as if they got back together or something.

I'm not trying to break your balls, but this what troubles me about the post Jerry music that is out there. It is becoming intertwined with the real music and for me that is unacceptable.

Marvin says:
Ooh, baby
Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby
Ain't nothing like the real thing
No, no, ain't nothing like the real thing, baby
Ain't nothing like the real thing

But Merle says:
No, it's not love, not like ours was
It's not love, but it keeps love from driving me mad
And I don't have to wonder who she's had
No, it's not love, but it's not bad

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself at the Gorge.I was a little worried when I saw the set list, but then I read your review and you were fine with it.

I guess the best way to answer your question is by looking at the start of set II and me know if you think it was worth it. Starts just before 9 minute mark.

I hear a somewhat clunky cover band poorly playing GD music.Equally useless as Furthur,Phil and Whoever,The Dead,Joe Russo's deal,DSO etcetera.I get having a night out seeing some live music, but listening to it afterwards is puzzling.

This is Eyes of the World.

The fact that three of the players on this version also participated in the 2016 version with that plaid short set wearing douche bag is sad.

AMEN. Your link is tasty, heady stuff.

Re, your post about on a good slice here in NY - Patsy's on the upper west side is excellent. However, nothing beats pizza from my home town, Detroit - Buddy's or Shields ....

More detail on Patsy's please. My son is visiting NYC for the first time on Monday. You know the food pyramid that we were forced to see in school? My son thinks that pyramid sits on a pizza.

This location is near my office, so we've had occasion to celebrate there for birthdays, etc. What I particularly like is their tomato sauce (what some NY Italians call "gravy") - pungent and redolent. Coupled with real mozzarella, on a somewhat thin crust, it is excellent. Also recommend the bolognese and carbonara.

Have not been to Patsy's yet I will recommend Lombardi's.Your son will be very happy. It opened in 1897 and Carusso famously had a few slices there. It is great pizza in a cool little neighborhood. Here is some info: http://www.firstpizza.com I have heard Patsy's is also very good, but couldn't say from experience. There are 3 in the city and UJ52 mentioned the upper West Side location so here is the info on that one. This location is right near Central Park. http://www.patsyspizzeria.us/upper-west.html

Always nice to have you check in UJ52.That 6/20/74 version is just beautiful.I'm not a best version type of guy,but that is as good as Eyes gets. There are a number of others that are as interesting but none better.

I have never been to Patsy's,but my cousin has been touting it for years and one of these days I will have to give it a try.I've managed to try most of the highly recommended places.

I have only been to Detroit once back in the early 80's and sadly did not have any pizza. You might find this interesting if you weren't already aware. It certainly looks tasty.

Your points are valid and understood. I like all your posts really.
For me, I have never heard, seen or wanted to any of the versions of GD after 95. For the first time last year I thought I would give it a try. I watched the 5 shows and it was an event more than the music but it was OK. It was more the songs than the band that I enjoyed. Trey did not do much for me really.
With Deadco, I love this band and how they sound. It is more than just hearing the old songs. It sounds big, loud and together, if that means anything. The bookends of Jeff and Oteill add a lot of full sound and I like the tone of Mayer's guitar too. And it is live music with the excitement that brings with it. I remember the fun of what will they play next and the surprises which I do not have listening to shows over again.
So as I try to put the two together GD and Deadco, I think of growing up in New York and having a "pie". Just 3 ingredients, a thin crust, simple sauce and mozzarella, a fourth if you count the grease. It folds in half perfectly and right down she goes. To this day I would rather have a slice of cheese than almost anything else. Just the best.
I moved to Texas and the first thing I noticed is all the toppings and stuff they put on it, so many varieties. The crust is like cardboard, the sauce thick and the cheese doesn't melt right. You say you want a "pie" and they look at you crazy. Here it is called pizza. And since my wife likes the Supreme or whatever with the toppings we usually get that. It is Ok but it not what I grew up with. But if I just call it pizza and not pie it is fine.
I can still go back to New York and I do, and get a pie. I can't go back to GD live again. So I listen and enjoy the Deadco. I just call it pizza.
I know that doesn't speak of your thoughts but I wanted to share mine.

Again Vermoot I wasn't trying to tell you what you should like I was just trying to get a fix on what you meant.

It's getting harder and harder to get a good slice here in NY,but I will appreciate it more next time thinking about you and the horror of the supreme in Texas.

Gloria's in Flushing Queens were at the same location for years-Now they have moved to Forest Hills. After your slice head to The Lemon Ice King of Corona for an Italian ice. Going f back to NYC in the fall. Haven't been back since my Mom passed 10 years ago. Same thing here in Northern Ca. -You ask for a pie and they say "We don't sell pie, we sell pizza. Or would you like pineapple and chicken on that?!?!?! As far as Deadco I haven't even had a slice.

I always take a fellow New Yorker's pizza recs seriously and have a friend I visit in Bayside regularly so I will seek out a slice at Gloria's sometime in the future.I have been to the Ice King a few times over the years and it is the goods.

You are going to be very surprised no matter where you go as to how much things have changed here.I hope you have a good time while visiting.I will be that NY pizza snob guy and say that outside of NY it is very difficult to find anything resembling a genuine pizza.

If I were you I would pass on Deadco like you would pass on a slice at Bubba's Pizza and Ribs in Mobile Al.
